New cases reported in the last 24 hours
Update: new positive cases linked to Holiday Inn Melbourne AirportEarlier today the department was alerted to two further individuals linked to the Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport who have tested positive to coronavirus (COVID-19): a worker, and a previous resident who exited the facility on February 7. These two cases will be reported in tomorrow’s numbers. This takes the number of cases linked to the Holiday Inn outbreak to eight. This includes three index cases, three workers and two residents. There may be exposure sites linked to the previous resident. Interviews are underway, and any sites will be published online at Case locations and outbreak page as soon as possible. There are currently no exposure sites linked to the hotel quarantine worker. Our public health response to this outbreak continues. If you have symptoms, get tested. If you have been to any current exposure sites in Victoria, get tested and stay isolated for 14 days. For testing locations, visit the Where to get tested page. 🎥 - Presser recapHoliday Inn cases:
SUTTON: "Certainly they are working hypothesis for the Holiday Inn is that three cases are related to an exposure event that involved a medical device so that medical device is called the nebuliser and it vaporises medication or liquid into a fine mist and if that is everything, especially when it is used as medication and someone is infectious or later tests positive, that next up the virus and that missed can be suspended in the air with fine particles. -- mist. We think the exposures are to that event, this nebuliser whereby the method of a virus was carried out into the corridor and expose the authorised officer, the food and beverage service worker and also the other resident. That makes sense in terms of the geography and it makes sense in terms of the exposure time. So that is a risk and in a sense we need to be acutely aware of the possibility of everyone who was under that floor, in particular, being exposed to that. They are all, of course, notified, they are quarantining and will be tested but we have included the entire workforce of the Holiday Inn, all residents and visitors on that basis because the risk is substantial. We should expect more cases but obviously we have wrapped the public health around those individuals and we are going very broadly with the quarantine requirements so we're intending to get ahead of this, we will get of it but it does make sense, in terms of use of that particular medical device." Other news
Recap from yesterdayA resident of the Hotel Quarantine facility at Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport has tested positive to coronavirus (COVID-19) after completing their 14-day quarantine and being cleared for release. A strong public health response is now underway that builds on measures already in place. The individual tested negative a number of times during her quarantine period and departed the facility on 7 February. She sought testing in response to the current outbreak at the Holiday Inn, returning a positive result today, 9 February. Interviews with the individual are underway. Early indications are that the individual has not left her home since exiting Hotel Quarantine on 7 February, other than to obtain a test in a COVIDsafe setting. Updates to exposure site locations (if any), primary close contacts and other information will be provided as soon as possible. Primary close contacts will include past residents of the Holiday Inn who completed their quarantine period on 7 February. They will be required to isolate for 14 days. We are in contact with this group. This will come as difficult news to them, but we are being as cautious as possible in our response to this outbreak. Cases to date

New cases reported in the last 24 hours
Recap from the PresseMedia release
"At this stage, when we had a look through just this person's engagement with people as they enter the hotel, as they exit the hotel, as they get moved to health hotels, it appears that there's no breach in that engagement in terms of how close they were, in terms of touching things, in terms of not using infection prevention and control. So we will need to wait for genomics. We'll obviously continue to interview as the Health Department are interview this individual about their activity and see whether there's any other memory they have. Obviously also checking rosters and checking her movement through the hotel whether there was any engagement with anyone who was positive. She's obviously been very cooperative as we saw at the Grand Hyatt worker, she's also been wearing masks as required which is also, I think, an important protection for those who have attended particular exposure sites."

💩 Wastewater detectionFollowing the weak detection of viral fragments from wastewater collected from Mt Beauty that was announced yesterday, a new site has been established to facilitate testing in the local area. The Mt Beauty Pop Up COVID-19 Testing Clinic is open this weekend and will operate from a clinic in Tennis Court Avenue from 9am-4pm on both days. It is a drive-through site and no appointment is required. Anyone who lives in or has visited the Mt Beauty, Tawonga and Tawonga South area from 26 January to 1 February is urged to get tested for coronavirus (COVID-19) if they have any symptoms, however mild. Weak detections of the virus in wastewater may be due to people who have recovered from COVID-19 but continue to shed the virus or from an active infectious case. Wastewater samples are taken at least weekly from 95 wastewater monitoring locations across Victoria, including 70 wastewater treatment plants, for early-warning of coronavirus (COVID-19). As previously reported, viral fragments have been recently detected in wastewater at several other locations. While viral fragments have not been detected in samples since taken from these sites, anyone who lives in or has visited Lakes Entrance from 26 to 28 January, Castlemaine, Cowes, Hamilton, Pakenham or Warrnambool from 25 to 27 January, Gisborne from 24 to 26 January, or Leongatha from 17 to 19 January, is urged to get tested if they have any symptoms.
